Watch Less TV

Watch TV statistics get more and more depressing. In the world, the average adult spends anywhere from three to six hours watching TV every day, and almost two-thirds of families with kids eat dinner while watching the tube. If you feel you’ve been spending more time watching an electronically mediated simulation of real life than actually experiencing your own, here’s a step-by-step plan for cutting down your daily TV consumption.

There are some steps that help people to watch less TV:
• Don’t go “cold turkey.” If you’re accustomed to watching four and a half hours of prime-time TV each night, unplugging your set and stuffing it in the closet is a sure recipe for acute withdrawal. If your aim is to completely erase TV from your life, start slow. Turn on the set a half hour later each evening and turn it off a half hour earlier than normal.
• Find a hobby. Four-plus hours a day is a lot of time to fill, so you should have something fun and engaging to fill it with. “Read a book” is the usual cliché, but very few people have the attention span to read a single book for an entire evening. Try listening to music, painting your bathroom, playing with Legos–in short, anything to get you off the couch.
• Try “appointment TV.” Too many people “sort of” watch TV-you know, flipping idly through 500 cable channels, desperately hoping to find something interesting to watch. Instead of playing this fruitless game, resolve to watch only those shows you know you want to watch-like “The Sopranos” or “CSI.”
• Use your DVD player. Although many experts would say watching DVDs is only marginally better than watching broadcast or cable TV, at least DVDs have a clear beginning and end, as compared to the 24/7 TV smorgasbord.

Fortunately, this topic can be significantly improved with hypnotherapy and clinical hypnosis.

Wart Treatment

A wart is generally a small, rough tumor, typically on hands and feet but often other locations that can resemble a cauliflower or a solid blister. These warts are common, and are caused by a viral infection, specifically by human papillomavirus 2 and 7. There are as many as 10 varieties of warts with the most common being considered largely harmless. It is also possible to get warts from others, they can be contagious, but transmission from person to person is rare. There are many different treatments and procedures associated with wart removal. One review of 52 clinical trials of various cutaneous wart treatments concluded that topical treatments containing salicylic acid were the best supported, with an average cure rate of 75%, compared with 48% for the placebo in six placebo-controlled trials including a total of 376 participants. The reviewers also concluded that there was little evidence of a significant benefit of cryotherapy over salicylic acid or duct tape. One complicating factor in the treatment of warts is that the wart may regrow after it has been removed.

Treatments that may be prescribed by a medical professional include:
• Application of podophyllum resin paint
• Imiquimod, a topical cream that helps the body’s immune system fight the wart virus by encouraging interferon production.
• Cantharidin, a chemical found naturally in many members of the beetle family Meloidae which causes dermal blistering. Either used by itself or compounded with podophyllin.
• Bleomycin, not US FDA approved. One or two injections used. It can cause necrosis of digits and Raynaud syndrome. This drug is expensive.
• Fluorouracil, which inhibits DNA synthesis, is being used as an experimental treatment. It is applied directly to the wart and covered. This treatment is combined with the use of a pumice stone, but tends to work very slowly.

Walk More

People exercise their hips and knees so they can walk more, without pain or exhaustion. But doctors will also tell us that the best way to walk more is to… walk more. Here are 6 ideas to get people on their feet and moving:

• Regulate it: Every night, immediately after dinner, take a 20-minute stroll. Don’t let the weather stop you — that’s what jackets, boots, and umbrellas are for. Indeed, there’s something wonderfully refreshing and childlike about a walk in the rain or snow. Post-dinner is the perfect time for a walk. It gets you away from the television, it’s when others are outside, it’s a lovely time of day, and it stops you from eating more.
• Develop a habit: Never sit while talking on the phone. Instead, walk around your home if you have a portable phone, and if not, pace back and forth. You’d be surprised how much movement you can do when you are concentrating on a conversation rather than the exertion.
• Make it social: Plan events around walking. For example, rather than meeting friends for coffee or lunch, suggest meeting at the public gardens for a stroll.
• Take a commercial break: When watching television, always get up and move about during commercials. You’ve seen them already, anyhow. During a single one-hour show, you can get in more than 10 minutes of activity.
• Step up to it: Take the stairs, take the stairs, take the stairs. You’ve heard it a million times, but if it is three flights or less, you have no excuse to take an elevator, unless your arthritis pain is truly prohibitive. In that case, take one flight of stairs instead.
• Make it interesting: For an evening’s diversion, do some outdoor window-shopping. Strolling down a street of shops is great for people-watching, talking, and feeling alive.

Victim Mentality

A victim mentality is one where people blame everyone else for what happens in their world.

If people suffer from low self esteem they may have a victim mentality. Some people are right to think this because they have suffered at the hands of others or life has dealt them a blow but even if they have a reason they don’t have to feel like a victim and pity themself they can rise above events and refuse to submit to them.

There are several causes of victim mentality:
• Bad things that happen to people and their reaction
• Negative thinking
• People’s belief in fate or personal responsibility
• People’s religious beliefs

What people tell themself is obviously going to affect their mood, behaviour and happiness so negative self talk is likely to help cause or prolong a victim mentality. If peoples are negative they cannot see reality and therefore their decisions will be based on wrong assumptions. More bad decisions lead to more more pain and failure which will encourage people to believe that they are indeed a victim.Negative comments from others can cause people to become very negative and it is very easy to misinterpret what others tell them. A negative comment or offensive behaviour towards them may say a lot about the other person. If they have a negative mentality you will just take what they say or do at face value and believe that you are again a victim.

Something that do about victim mentality:
• Check out my e-book “Self Esteem Secrets” and start building your self esteem and confidence
• Stop being angry or feeling helpless and understand that you are responsible for your own life. Decide to do something about it and get help if you need it
• Question your negative thoughts, don’t believe them automatically

Verbal Self Defense

Lots of people think verbal self-defense means fighting back. Their thinking about verbal self-defense is a collection of killer smart cracks plus strategies for using language to wipe the floor with their opponents. It’s not an accurate thinking.

It has undoubtedly happened to people. There people are, in the middle of a fierce argument with someone, and suddenly they realize that they not only don’t particularly care about the subject of the argument but they can’t understand how they got into the altercation in the first place. This isn’t trivial. Hostile language is dangerous to people’s health and well-being; it’s toxic stuff. People who are frequently exposed to hostile language get sick more often, are injured more often, take longer to recover from illness and injury, and suffer more complications during recovery. As an obvious result, they tend to die sooner than those not so exposed. What’s more, hostile language is just as dangerous to the person dishing it out as it is to the person on the receiving end. Obviously it’s to people’s advantage to stay out of arguments in both their personal and their professional life, unless something truly important — something about which they care profoundly — is at stake. Even then, most of us are aware that it’s possible to have intense discussions that don’t turn into altercations. One of the parts of our brain (the amygdala) is on constant duty, and one of its primary tasks is to scan for danger. When it spots an incoming perception that meets its criteria for danger, it has the ability to send a message that provokes an immediate fight-or-flight reaction, and it can do that without first going through the reasoning part of our brain. It can literally short-circuit our thinking process. In the sabertooth tiger days this was a good thing.

Vaginismus Treatment

Vaginismus, sometimes anglicized veganism is the German name for a condition which affects a woman’s ability to engage in any form of vaginal penetration, including sexual intercourse, insertion of tampons, and the penetration involved in gynecological examinations.

There are a variety of factors that can contribute to vaginismus. These may be psychological or physiological, and the treatment required can depend on the reason that the woman has developed the condition. As each case is different, an individualized approach to treatment is useful. The condition will not necessarily become more severe if left untreated, unless the woman is continuing to attempt penetration, despite feeling pain. Some women may choose to refrain from seeking treatment for their condition. Further trials are needed to compare therapies with waiting list control and with other therapies.” Although few controlled trials have been carried out, many serious scientific studies have tested and proved the efficacy of the treatment of vaginismus. In all cases where the systematic desensitization method was used, success rates were close to 90–95% and even 100%.

There are two types of vaginismus treatment:
• Psychological treatment has the three most common contributing factors to veganism’s are fear of painful sex; the belief that sex is wrong or shameful and traumatic early childhood experiences.Vaginismus patients are twice as likely to have a history of childhood sexual interference and held less positive attitudes about their sexuality whereas no correlation was noted for lack of sexual knowledge or physical abuse.
• Physical treatment of the internal spasms may include sensate focus exercises, exploring the vagina through touch, and desensitization with vaginal dilators. Dilating involves inserting objects, usually phallic in shape, into the vagina. In treating the spasms through dilation, the objects used gradually increase in size as the woman progresses. Medical dilators may be obtained online, though they may be expensive.

How to enjoy your holidays

A holiday is a day designated as having special significance for which individuals, a government, or a religious group has deemed that observation is warranted. It is generally an official or unofficial observances of religious, national, or cultural significance, often accompanied by celebrations or festivities.

There are 6 things one can do to enjoy there holidays:
• Ironic as it may sound, vacations can be exhausting, especially for parents. Whether your children are toddlers or teenagers, fatigue can set in from trying to accomplish too much in such a short amount of time. Make sure you take some time to relax yourself.
• Even if you are vacationing with a lot of extended family members, make it a point to take some time to spend with your teenager one-on-one.
• As your teenager gets older, there is a normal part of you that desire to spend a lot of time with him/her. You want to cherish the time with your daughter, and make sure your son knows the importance of your relationship.
• Many parents visualize in their mind, and heart what they want their family vacations to be like. Their ideals are filled with holiday cheer, perfect children, and Norman Rockwell memories. Thereby, they unintentionally place expectations on their teenagers and family members. Take your vacation a day at a time, without any expectations.
• If there is a major conflict between you and your teenager, then agree to put the matter aside until after your vacation. Anyone can “agree to disagree” for a temporary period of time.
• No doubt there will moments of frustration between you and your teenager. It is unrealistic to expect otherwise. As the parent, make it a point to pick your battles. Then talk it out in a manner that will resolve conflict, rather than placing blame. Avoid harboring grudges and resentments.

Unrequited Love

Unrequited love is love that is not openly reciprocated or understood as such, even though reciprocation is usually deeply desired. The beloved may or may not be aware of the admirer’s deep affections.

As the literary selections suggest, the inability to express and fulfill emotional needs may lead to feelings such as depression, low self-esteem, anxiety and rapid mood swings between depression and euphoria. A universal feeling, by some estimates affecting 98% of all people during their lifetimes, unrequited love has naturally been a frequent subject in popular culture. The object of unrequited love is often a friend or acquaintance, someone regularly encountered in the workplace, during the course of work or other activities involving large groups of people. This creates an awkward situation in which the admirer has difficulty in expressing his/her true feelings, as a romantic relationship may be inconsistent with the existing association; revelation of the lover’s feelings might invite rejection, cause embarrassment or might end all access to the beloved. In terms of the feelings of the hopeful one, it could be said that they undergo about the same amount of pain as does someone who is going through the breakup of a romantic relationship without ever having had the benefit of being in that relationship. Unrequited love has long been depicted as noble, an unselfish and stoic willingness to accept suffering, though contemporary western culture may give greater weight to practical, goal-oriented and self-assertive behavior. Literary and artistic depictions of unrequited love may depend on assumptions of social distance which have less relevance in democratic societies with relatively high social mobility, or less rigid codes of sexual fidelity. Nonetheless, the literary record suggests a degree of euphoria in the limerence associated with unrequited love, which has the advantage as well of carrying none of the responsibilities of mutual relationships.

Unfamiliar Surroundings

Acquiring a fear of unfamiliar surroundings can put a great deal of constraint on a person’s life. People often respond to this fear by deciding to stay close to home, or even at home, reasoning that the best thing to do is avoid the situation which rouses the fear response. Of course, this is not the answer! The Unfamiliar Surroundings Hypnosis Script from The Script Collection provides people with a simple and delightful method to help their clients who feel worried about being anywhere away from home discover that the secret of feeling comfortable is inside them. The brief pre-talk allows people to implant the idea that anyone can learn to feel comfortable with things they don’t know about. The induction process plays with a number of truisms which their client will easily recognise and relate to as they relax. From there people will lead them to revisit an uncomfortable memory where they experienced a fear of unfamiliar surroundings but in a dissociated state. This allows them to discover that they can re-write that event in a more enjoyable manner and learn from their own involvement in that new, enjoyable situation. Extrapolation to the future then allows repeated rehearsal of feeling totally comfortable in unfamiliar surroundings.

Developing a fear of going somewhere new, or even a place too far from home, can make life difficult. When the sufferer responds naturally by staying closer to home, the scene is set for things to get worse because with anxiety, avoidance tends to make the problem worse.

Although the obvious ‘solution’ to a fear of new situations is to avoid them, it is of course the wrong one.The way to be comfortable away from home is to generate feelings of comfort and security within yourself. With this skill, you can be almost anywhere and remain calm and in control.

TV Junk Food

Restrictions on food television commercials aimed at children may have reduced the number of kids’ TV food ads, but children are still being targeted with cross-promotional tactics and product placement. According to a study from Yale’s Rudd Center for Food Policy and Obesity, cross-promotions on food packaging aimed at children nearly doubled between 2006 and 2008 in the US. The US, the UK and Australia have all taken steps to restrict food advertising targeting children, particularly junk food advertising, to promote healthy eating and combat rising obesity among children. Researchers at the Rudd Center for Food Policy and Obesity assessed 397 products that used cross-promotions – including use of “third-party licensed characters, as well as tie-ins with other television shows and movies, athletes, sports teams and events, theme parks, toys and games, and charities”. They found that over the three year period (2006 – 2008) the number of products using youth-oriented cross-promotions increased by 78%.The study said that of all the foods being promoted, only 18 per cent met accepted nutrition standards for foods sold to youth, raising concerns that the initiatives of the CBBB are not having the desired effect, and stricter legislative changes are required.

The researchers found that adult participants exposed to unhealthy food advertisements in TV programs also ate significantly more than those who saw ads with a nutrition or healthy food message. These effects persisted after the TV viewing. While TV food ads are, by design, created to increase purchase and consumption of the foods being advertised, Yale noted that both experiments caused adults and children to increase mindless intake of any foods they had available, including those not specifically presented in the advertisements. Children see few public service announcements compared to food ads. Children under 8 see one announcement on fitness or nutrition for every 26 food ads.
